Do I Need Therapy? - At Leeward Counseling we believe that going to therapy is like going to the gym - there are people that need to go and then there are people that go because it helps maintain themselves mentally or improve on already stable/positive positions in life. Therapy strengthens you.
I've been to therapists before and hated it. Is this time going to be any different? - We certainly hope so! Leeward Counseling is not just "Another Therapy Agency" and we pride ourselves on correcting many of the common complaints people have about their therapy experiences. We strive to provide our clients with a different experience than they are used to. We train our therapists to be personable, warm and real while helping you achieve your goals. Providing concrete feedback and teaching skills is an important part of this process. We are very invested in you seeing results, if that's why you are here. Additionally we always respect your choices, opinions and decisions. It is not up to any therapist to dictate what is right for your life. Therapists at Leeward Counseling help you define your goals and help you learn to give yourself your own advice, completely your way. Tell us about your other counseling experiences and what exactly you are looking for now and we will work to match you with a therapist and a style that fits for you.
I want to go to therapy but I don't know what to say or where to begin. What do I do? - This is one of the most common reasons people resist therapy, along with the fact that they are not ready to change and they are embarrassed. Counselors at Leeward work hard to make the experience as comfortable for you as possible. We are not "head nodders" and sit in silence with you - we help to make conversation and give you language to express how you feel. Additionally, we are comfortable taking the time to build comfort and trust before you even disclose what you want to work on if that is a route you would like to take. You never, ever have to talk about anything you don't want to! For more information look at our "what to expect" section.
